Drama Therapy Experience

Where mental health

meets creativity...

Can performance be therapeutic?

We think so! At DTX we use drama therapy theory and practice as a foundation to run groups, provide classes and create cathartic theater that promotes healing and transformation in participants and audiences alike. Drama therapy is the skillful and intentional use of combining psychotherapy and theatre practices in order to facilitate psychological, relational and social change.

About Us

Lara and Aileen met in graduate school for Counseling Psychology & Drama Therapy at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS).

After over two decade long careers and three babies combined, they found themselves ready for a change!

Both trained actors and drama therapists, they decided to come together to bring drama therapy out of the confines of the clinical world and into the hearts of every person with a creative itch looking transformation.

Our Mission

We seek to explore the intentional use of the dramatic medium to develop insight, instigate change and build creative bridges to healthier relationships with oneself, others and our communities.

Success Stories

"I appreciated how she guided me in the creative process: utilizing DvT, encouraging me to not edit until late in the process, helping keep track of all the ideas which had emerged, and acting as outside eye for the overall structure. I highly recommend working with Aileen."

Rebecca Siegel, MA, RDT, LMFT

“Lara served as an instrument to this work, at times quite literally, consistent in her ability to make me feel safe to explore as she played with me, (yes, played!) danced with me, laughed with me, cried with me, and challenged me, always, to keep searching myself. She was a partner, a friend and a guide through my journey. This was the most pleasant surprise I found in taking this course.”

“I have applied these lessons to all of my creative projects since having taken the class. More importantly, I have applied these things to my inevitably darker days when I am feeling overwhelmed.  I remind myself that I am simply living through yet another process, and that the feelings that come with that are worthy of acceptance and voice.”
